Pembudayaan Matematika di Sekolah Untuk Mencapai Keunggulan Bangsa

Civilize mathematics in the school have an understanding aspects about the essence of mathematics, the essence of school mathematics, mathematics education essence, the value of mathematics essence, the essence of studying mathematics, the essence of mathematics teaching and learning process, and the essence of civilize school mathematics in the school. Generally, what we are talking about always associated with two matters: what is the object and what is the method?

Civilize of mathematics is an implication the awareness of the importance reflection activities through the study of mathematics and mathematics education  in various dimensions. Thus the civilize of mathematics meaning is how far we are be able to do the activities in a range of intentions, attitudes,  knowledge, skills and experience of mathematics, mathematics education and the learning of mathematics. Explicitly, civilize of  mathematics based on: (1) knowledge of mathematics in various dimensions, which include the essence, justification and occurrence, (2) mathematical objects at various  dimensions which include the essence and origin, (3) the use of formal mathematics  include its effectiveness in science, technology and the other, and (4) practices  mathematics in various dimensions more generally, including the activities of the  mathematicians or mathematics activities for elementary school students.

Civilize of mathematics in the school can begin from define the essence of school mathematics. Ebbutt and Straker, (1995) defines school mathematics as: (1) mathematics is an activity about patterns and the context, (2) mathematical activities need creativity, imagination, intuition and discovery, (3) activities and the results of mathematics should be communicated, (4) problem solving is the part of mathematical activities, (5) algorithm is a procedure to obtain the answers of mathematics problems, and (6) social interaction is needed in mathematical activities.

Civilize the learning of mathematics has implications for mathematics teacher as facilitator
as well as possible so that students can learn mathematics optimally. Mathematics
deemed not to be taught by the teacher but to be studied by students. Student
placed as the central point of learning mathematics. The teacher should be creating the atmosphere, provide the facilities of teaching and then the role of teacher as a manager. Learning is doing in a conducive and less formal atmosphere. The students do the various mathematics activities with different targets. Teachers have three main functions: as a facilitator, as a source of teaching and monitoring students' activities. Thus, the teachers can develop various learning method : lectures, discussions, giving assignments, seminars, etc. Study source or reference is the central point in the learning of mathematics. Variations in study source or reference is needed, including books, journals and access to the internet. Assessment conducted by assessment approach, a portfolio or autenthic assessment.

Mathematical communication includes communication of materials, formal communication, the communication of normative and spiritual communication. To learning mathematics, we should be define mathematics as school mathematics, but for mathematics in college, we define a formal mathematical or axiomatic. Civilize of mathematics can contribute to the nation through excellent innovation  mathematics learning continuously. In relation to obtaining the benefits the nation, we can think of mathematics, learning mathematics and mathematics education at different hierarchical levels or levels of intrinsic, extrinsic or systemic.
